Building Infrastructure, Identifying Barriers and Determining Facilitators for Recruitment of Underserved Latinxs to Aging-Related Studies

Traditional recruitment strategies to engage older adults in ADRD research have been largely unsuccessful in engaging Latinx older adults for participation in aging studies, in spite of disparate risk. Therefore, the purpose of the present project is to generate a network of community partners (Aim 1) who will serve as advisors and collaborators in the development of recruitment/retention science principles of best practice, through engaging community health workers (CHWs) and Promotor/as, informal caregivers of Latinx older adults, and Latinx older adults in a formative study using a mixed-method approach (Aim 2) as to refine the foundational principles needed for successful recruitment and retention of Latinx older adults into ADRD research. The long-term goal of this project is to develop an infrastructure for research collaboration, and a guide of best practices and considerations for successful engagement of Latinx older adults in ADRD and aging research.
